Course Card Summary

Develop a practical understanding of cardiac CT preparation, ECG synchronisation, acquisition, reconstruction and image optimisation.

Course Overview

Cardiac CT focuses on the technical and workflow decisions required to produce consistent cardiac imaging while maintaining patient safety and efficient service delivery. It links cardiac anatomy and physiology with patient preparation, heart-rate considerations, ECG synchronisation and protocol selection.

The course uses practical cases to explore acquisition strategies, reconstruction choices, contrast timing, radiation dose, common artefacts and the factors that influence diagnostic image quality.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the clinical pathway and preparation requirements for a cardiac CT examination.
  • Explain prospective and retrospective ECG synchronisation at an applied level.
  • Relate heart rate, rhythm, scan mode and reconstruction phase to image quality.
  • Recognise common cardiac CT artefacts and suggest appropriate optimisation strategies.
  • Discuss contrast timing, dose awareness and escalation within local protocols and scope of practice.

Who Should Attend?

CT radiographers beginning or consolidating cardiac CT practice, experienced radiographers seeking a technical refresher, and teams developing a cardiac CT service.

Course Delivery

Live online teaching or bespoke group delivery, supported by protocol demonstrations, case discussions and downloadable learning resources.
